Can i opt for a flexible arrangement home schooling and school? I would like to preoare my child for a private 9+entry but he needs time to study at home...can I opt for a flexible arrangement?

We tried this. Ultimately it was the HT's decision and they said no despite 3 other kids doing something similar (2 for health / behavioural reasons). So we moved to another school.

I can't imagine any state school agreeing to a flexible approach.

There is an outside chance you may get a school to agree to flexible schooling on a set pattern.

However, I think it is extremely unlikely that any school would agree to flexible schooling so you can prepare your child for a 9+ exam at a private school. Why can't you just work with your child after school for half an hour each day?

My sister was able to - in fact encouraged to - do a 4 day week when her eldest was in year 1 and she was on maternity leave. She was able to use it for things like museum visits. She would have liked to continue the pattern but the headteacher changed and no more flexibility was permitted. I suspect things have got tighter since then - that child is now in year 9.

Flexi schooling is at the head's discretion. It's more common in infant years or for eg behavioural issues.
You can ask but you don't have a right to it. It can be frustrating for teachers to deal with if children regularly miss chunks of lessons.

My son is being allowed to flexischool. He is at Stroud Green Primary near Finsbury park.

Starpatch - can I be a bit nosy, and ask what reason you discussed with the school for wanting to flexischool?
