How old are your children? Are you hoping for private or state?

Hello @tomhazard thank you for your reply. I have two girls one is just turning 3 at the end of may and the second one is just 4mnths old. We are looking at both options really , we are just finding it a bit daunting on where the good schools are so we can locate ourselves in a better location . Our 3year old is at a Montessori nursery at the moment.

Okay. If you have girls and are interested in private Brighton and Hove High School is popular. The juniors is in Hove and Hove is a very popular and lovely place to live although expensive for family sized property. Hove also has some good but very large state primaries including West Hove and St Andrews that people want their children to attend.

Other State options which are popular include Balfour in Preston Park and Downs in Fiveways- these areas are very close together, popular with families and have a nice, London-ish vibe. Very family orientated and both schools popular and traditionally successful. Living there will also give you a chance of attending Dorothy Stringer or Varndean High Schools which are popular.
If you're happy to live a bit more suburban you could choose Patcham or Westdene where you'd get a bigger house for your money and less of a city feel but only a short bus ride into the city. Patcham Infant and Junior and Westdene Primary are both excellent schools.

On the other side of the city St Luke's primary does very well and is located in Queen's Park- you could live here if you preferred East Brighton.

@tomhazard thank you so much for your informative message! We are viewing a house by Hove Park, wish me luck :). We are considering Lewes too any idea on the area ?

Yes very well- I work there (as a teacher). All primaries are good except Wallands is struggling a bit at the moment. There are also social issues at Western Road which have made a few friends and acquaintances move their DC out. Southover and Malling both great.

Secondary there is a comp called Lewes Priory which does very well and a non-selective private called Lewes Old Grammar also quite good but much smaller than priory.
