hi
i used to teach in an very old traditional independent boys school before having a baby break and there was some help offered mainly funded by the charity. if you are in the school already it is easier to get help if you have problems later.
i did enrol my two in the local primary but after being tempted by a local small independent school at an openday i am now going to send them there.
there are only ten children in each class and the facilities are much better. our local primary has 30ish in each class and they have just built a new estate in the village - i dont know how the school will cope!!
i used to be against independent school (before i worked in one) In my situation i want the best for my children and i will be working just to pay the fees, i am luckier than some, we can just manage to live on what we have left after paying the fees and money will be very tight for a few years. I am going to try to get a teaching job there as often the fees are half price if you teach at the same school.
i hope you manage to get funding of some sort, it offers such a good start in life the time devoted to sport is great (healthy body, healthy mind) the standard of education and work ethic you often cant compare to the state sector. Always look at the ofsted report but remember that often the ofsted week is staged (we had a years notice for the date of our inspection) some things however like standard of teaching and facilities, will help you decide. ofsted is a way to keep schools on their toes.
good luck

thanks Sue and Sparkle (Sparkle, I was lucky enough to go to the school myself, so know it is totally great).
