Curious to know what this school is like! I gather it's RC but has 50% non RC pupils. If anyone knows anything about it, good or bad, I'd be interested. Ta

I've heared of it. My friend chose another independent school in Southampton can't think of the name of it. I'll try and ask her today as she may have looked at St Marys or may know anyone that goes there.

yes - I know it.

Wouldn't touch it with a barge pole myself but I know lots of families who send their children there and are very happy with it.

Yes, I know nothing about the place- just a flyer through the door last week! What have you heard, Tommy? Spill beans here!!

Our options re our 2 are fairly open at this stage and they're still young- I just wanted to get some 'ball park' opinions on what's available and I know MN is THE place to get 'em!

St Winifreds is the school i was thinking of.

my objections are more on the principles of Catholic private education i.e. I don't think there should be any!! But....if you are not RC then presumably that won't bother you anyway.

I think as private schools go, it is fine. The Head may be a little past retiring age and has been there for a long time - which may suggest a reluctance to move forward but, as I said, everyone I know whose children go there are happy with it.

Do you mind me asking why you would be looking for private schools in Southampton and not using the state sytem?

yogimum · 14/05/2007 16:10

My friend chose private in Southampton because the state schools are not so great.

Have you considered St. Anne's Catholic School for girls? It had an outstanding OFSTED this year and we are certainly looking at it as a strong possibility for our 2 dds. Obviously, if you have sons, ignore this post!

Tommy · 14/05/2007 19:52

are you local doglover? (have I asked you that before?!)
I used to teach at St Anne's

I'm hoping there will be a new Catholic Co-ed school by the time my DSs get there...

We live outside Southampton near Beaulieu. You made some highly informative comments about St. Anne's on a different thread started by me a few weeks ago! We're actually going to their Open Evening in June to get the feel of the place. (Sorry for thread hijack,Miljee!)

Tommy · 14/05/2007 23:04
