Prep School Communication

I am new to the prep school. Day #2 of DS being there.

In general how does communication between school and parents work? How much of it is there and what is the mode of communication? What should I hope for?

I appreciate this will be different for different schools but I wonder what people's experiences are. DS will travel by bus and I will pick him up once a week so the rest of the time will have to rely on modes other than face to face communication with his teacher so I'd appreciate to hear other's experiences.

Many thanks

They will normally have either a parents evening or open classroom once a term so you can view work and progress. If you want to see a form teacher otherwise you will need an appointment. School Newsletter may be once a week , probably on a Friday, with reminders and an annual review publication. Some of our notifications come via a system called Classlist. There may also be a clarion text system for urgent updates such as changes due to weather, match cancellations etc. It might be worth you checking with the office administrator that you have been added to the relevant mailing lists and have access to the calendar and parents' area online.

Or email the teacher explaining when you are around and ask about communication. A lot happened via homework diaries, but private schools are usually responsive to emailed concerns, as long as they are genuine and reasonably infrequent. It would be reasonable to ask for a conversaton/meeting a could of weeks in to check for any early problems.

How old is your child?

Our school had a very active Twitter feed, which was interesting and often gave me a snippet of information about what my DS had done that day. Individual stuff is bound to be limited.
