Habs 13+

Hi mums. We are relocating back to the uk and my son is doing 13+ exams. He just did the one at Habs and feels it went horribly which to him is a shocker as he’s always done extremely well at school and pushes himself so hard. I just wondered if he’s being too hard on himself maybe. So my question is - has anyone ever done the Habs 13+ have their son say it’s gone badly and then actually been offered a place. I’ve been focused on just making him feel positive and focus on the other exams to come but it’s so heartbreaking to see. He did get in at 7+ but our relocation back home didn’t happen then so we had to turn down the place. Wish we had just moved back then! Being out of the uk education system for so long really hasn’t done him any favors I think.
Thanks in advance for your help. It’s mt first time posting on here.

Where else are you looking? Will he be called for an interview at next stage? When will you hear back?

As we are only here for a short time just for assessments at the moment they did his interview on the same day. We only found out we were moving end of October so we had missed the deadline at merchant Taylor’s already. He is also assessing at John Lyon, St. Albans, and Aldenham. He really had his heart set on Habs as totally loved it and the competitive environment and now just feels like his totally ruined his chances. I know he will do well wherever he goes as he has such a hard working attitude but is naturally very able too but he feels like Habs would have helped him achieve even more. We don’t find out till mid feb. Such a long wait.

Ok so all’s not lost. He sat for a tough exam without the benefit of help from his existing scho or being around other kids doing the same sets of exams. I’m sure he’d not done as badly as he thought and a fair weight is placed by reports from his current school.

I’m sure they will consider the facet that he has come at short notice from abroad and didn’t have the prep that other boys would have had.

If he didn’t get it, well then it wasn’t the right school for him. I know that won’t take the wrong our yet but having gone through his circus I can tell you that a brilliant school can be bloody awful if it’s not the right school for tour child and his personality/skills/interests/culture.

DS came out of one exam and interview - he broke the pc that he was working on and was bouncing about like tigger on speed in the interview, so we thought he had missed his chance. They thought he was great (sent us a long letter to say now much they had enjoyed having him in that day) and got his place.

Have you missed schools like City Boys as well? just feel Habs and Aldenham don't really match if he's of that type of ability.
