Berkshire/West Berkshire anyone?

Does anyone's child go to primary school in Berkshire (specifically West Berkshire)?

I'm looking for a primary that's great with my sen (ASD) 6 son, my main concern is finding a school which doesn't focus heavily on academic achievement.

Trawling through ofsted reports doesn't really tell a true picture.

Anyone?

Well, the Berkshire/ West Berkshire area is massive- do you need to narrow that down at all?

Ryvers would be well worth a look if Slough is on your list. SEN provision in Slough is really pretty decent. If you want somewhere further west then Theale Primary or Winchcombe.

Thanks for the reply! We're willing to move anywhere for the right school, but yes West Berkshire is our ideal. I've been looking at theale - as it has an ASD unit (albeit my son wouldn't be able to access this with his current EHCP funding level, but I figured they'd be more ASD aware as a result). Do you have any first/second hand experience of Theale? Are they very results driven?

We used to live in the area, but I don't have personal experience of the school.

I think you are correct that schools with resource bases (I run one) will be better equipped for SEN in general. In your position I would focus my search around these schools. Theale is a great area to live in.

Looking ahead, you might want to consider Trinity for Secondary (resourced for ASD and SpLD) so perhaps looking to be in catchment for that would make sense.
