Christmas cards?

Probably isn't the right topic to post under but can't work out where is better...

DD1 in Y2 asked for Christmas cards so that she could do them for her class. I've obliged and she is now not sure she wants to write one for everyone. Should I be getting her to do everyone?

As a class, they seem to be past whole class party stage, but I wouldn't want anyone to feel left out. However there are a few children who have been unkind to DD and her friends and she's doesn't want to do them a card.

Realise this is pretty low on the scale issue wise.

I've always said to mine they can send them to who they want.

I don't see the point in sending them to the whole class, it then becomes pointless, or meaningless - like a box ticking exercise with no real meaning to receiving one.

I think, however, you must encourage her not to send to 'all but 2' of her class. That would be unkind.

IME 6 (or 7?) yr olds lose interest after writing about 5 or 6 anyway, so I'd get her to write them to he closest friends first and see how she goes.

No. Not everyone. For us that would have been 29. Just friends. Ones who have been to tea? Or her birthday party? As an adult, do you send a card to people you don’t really like? I don’t.

At most primary schools though you post your cards into a post box and they get delivered. As a cheap box of 30 is under £2 (or a £1 in Poundland) I would always let DS do the whole class. However he would separate the cards into the ones he liked best for his best rfiends and the others for the others.

I think the same rule as you would use for parties.
So

  • close friends only
  • all girls / boys
  • all class

Not all class minus a few
