I am looking for Dr Seuss books that are suitable for my just 4 year old. He can just about read the ABC book with the zizzer-zazzer-zuzz in it and loves it . I would like to get him some more, but at the same level or slightly higher so as to keep his interest.

thanks

I like Green eggs and ham.

(I do! I like them, Sam-I-am!
And I would eat them in a boat.
And I would eat them with a goat...
And I will eat them in the rain.
And in the dark. And on a train.
And in a car. And in a tree.
They are so good, so good, you see!
So I will eat them in a box.
And I will eat them with a fox.
And I will eat them in a house.
And I will eat them with a mouse.
And I will eat them here and there.
Say! I will eat them ANYWHERE!

I do so like green eggs and ham!
Thank you! Thank you, Sam-I-am!)

Hop on Pop is a good one
Are you my Mother
I wish that I had duck feet

will think of more

Hop on Pop is very easy to read. So is Red Fish Blue Fish Green Fish or whatever it's called.

And yeah, Green Eggs and Ham is pretty readable.

I love One Fish Two Fish red Fish Blue Fish. So does DS. DH does not .

DS is 3.4 and keeps hoping he will suddenly be able to read. He has decided he will be able to when he is 4 .

I got a six box set of Dr Seuss books from the bookpeople for some attractive price - not sure if they're still doing it.

hana · 16/04/2007 15:52

One Fish Two Fish also good for reading at this age ( or level)

We love 'Mr Brown Can Moo, Can You?' This might have to come a bit later though, as it has words like 'wonderful' and 'whisper' in it.

The best is the one about The Pale Green Pants - it's up there with Jane Austen imho!

Well I got out, I got out fast, as fast as I could go sir,
I was not scared but pants like that, I did not care for, No Sir!

The Dr Seuss books are graded for reading ability. See www.seussville.com, Catalog, Books, Beginner Books for a list.

I'd also get the video of the Jim Carey Cat In the Hat film. It's not even remotely educational, but...

It helps the kid associate books with fun. You'd 4yo is already there, but I don't think it hurts to reinforce the idea.

aintnomountainhighenough · 20/04/2007 21:33

Hi everyone. In case you havent seen this there is a promotion in the Daily Telegraph next week - well starting Saturday:

Saturday - free Cat in the Hat audio book tomorrow
Next week - five piece childrens activity set inspired by Dr Seuss - two audio books, a giant double sided height chart and alphabet poster and two sets of stickers

I'm looking forward to The Cat In The Hat CD tomorrow - we have a 2 and a half hour car journey to visit dh's aunt so it will come in very handy!

BarefootDancer · 20/04/2007 21:52

Cat in the Hat and the Pink Snow. Most marvellous book. How can they clean it all up?

vixma · 20/04/2007 21:53

Go on Amazon.co.uk they have loads. Sam I am....crazy tongue twisters but excellent fun!

Beauregard · 20/04/2007 21:57

I read dd1(5) her 1st Dr Seuss book tonight(a libary book)
She seemed to love it and miracle of miracles actually showed some interest in trying to read/sound out the words.
The book was Hop on Pop.

Has anybody tried computer games based on Dr Seuss books. They are great for teaching reading. They are dirt cheap as well off eBay.
