St Albans High School For Girls

My daughter has a place there for Reception in September. Am starting to worry though. It just seems that very, very well off families send their daughter there - and we are not that well off. Although this kind of doesn't matter - it does too. We feel our daughter is quite bright and shy and therefore feel it is the right school for her due to small class sizes etc etc. But will it just be too difficult if we are not in the same social crowd? Help/advice please!

Hi Cant really offer advice but I've heard this is a wonderful school. My colleague sent both his daughters there.
Hope your lo does well.
Can I ask how long did you have to out on lo's name down for this school?

should say 'how long was your lo on the waiting list for?'

She has not been on a waiting list. She had her assessment in January and got in! Soooo proud of her!

We registered her about a year before the assessment though but I don't think this makes any difference. They seem to go purely on the assessment.

Is it a GPDST school? (Think they may be GDST now I come to think of it, these days.) I was very happy at a different one, in Sheffield. Nice history behind the trust, promoting the education of girls back when it was seen as rather unnecessary.

My daughter went to Blackheath High School and it was excellent. A thriving, inner-city school, with lovely confident girls. The parents were from a mix of backgrounds - plenty were making sacrifices to send their daughters there, so I really wouldn't worry. I'm sure you and she will love it!

ihatethegym - DD1 is at the senior school - it is a great school. Good education but with tlc when required which she certainly has needed at times. Haven't heard anything bad about it. There are certainly well off families there but also lots who have made sacrifices for their daughter's education. Our house is small compared to some .. but all DDs friends have been lovely and their parents very nice (no snobby behaviour or anything). If you want to ask anything else plse do!
