Oundle or Uppingham?

Hi there. Have recently looked a Oundle and Uppingham and I'm looking for recent opinion on the schools. I have a boy and a girl and am looking to board them from 13. Oundle seemed very impressive in many ways, and appears to have slightly better results but I have heard stories about it being fairly ruthless. I loved the feel of Uppingham and could see my two there from a pastoral point of view. They are both very bright and talented but sensitive. Having said that, both schools have new-ish heads. Uppingham's head looks like he is on the case as far as results go and Oundle's head looks like she intends to make the school a bit more touchy-feely! Plea for help, please, perhaps from parents of current cohorts. Thanks.

Totally agree regarding pastoral care and academics at Oundle. I have a son at Oundle . On leaving his prep school he was one of the brighter children . A lot of his equally bright friends went to Uppingham and Oakham . He did v well in his GCSEs but was totally in shock that his friends at Oakham and Uppingham School didn’t do near as well. I might add he isn’t a book worm but I really do think there is a very strong work ethos there.
We are very pleased with our choice of School as indeed is our son .

I have lived in both Oundle and Uppingham and you get a feel for the town. The school at Uppingham was out of town, not far admittedly but was not comparatively as busy or bustling as Oundle. There is always a lot going on in Oundle and more diverse. I belong to a choir and found Oundle had more to choose from. St Peter's Church in Oundle is very active and the school puts on a variety of concerts. I would choose Oundle over Uppingham any day and through the choir and various other events mix with the staff at the school and have found them to be caring, passionate and well organised.
