Wilsons 11+ test 2017

Hi
I don't want to sound crazy but just a little upset today. My Ds sat his set 1 paper today at Wilsons. He's generally really good at maths, but he said he only managed to finish 40 out of 50 of the questions. Did anybody else find this or was it just him having a bad day? I'm a little upset for him as this is his first choice of school and he came out looking deflated. I did try and reassure him that he's probably not alone ?
Responses would be great from those who also sat the test today.
Thanks

Yes, my DS did say the same thing. We did speak with few of our friends
they said English is bit trickier than Maths

It will be upsetting for him, but It's probably best to manage his expectations in any case. Usually only about a third of boys pass the SET and he's missed out 20% of the paper. He might still be in with a chance if it was a tricky paper and lots of kids didn't finish.

DS2 did the Sutton Grammar second maths paper two years ago (so this was all boys who'd passed the SET). The examiner asked his group of about 20 boys at the end how many had finished the paper and no one had. DS2 passed it despite not finishing and finding it a bit of a stinker of an exam.

Thanks for replying
I don't know anyone else who sat the exam. Unfortunately we are from Bromley, hence we are quite out of area but DS loves this school.
I'll just have to sit and wait.

I've spoken to a few children and vast majority run out of time in Maths. There is only one child who I know that did finish with a few mins to spare.

Hi,

My son also sat in 11+ test on 19th Sep at Wilson Grammar School in the morning session and did complaint about Maths paper being not only tricky but with 3 printing mistakes in MCQs.

He was confident in selecting the right answers up to Question 40, however (can not remember the actual question numbers) between Q41 and Q50 he was struggling to choose the right answers for 3 questions simply because they were misprinted. By spending little bit more time on those questions he got panicked and could not the rest of the questions confidently.

We had contacted SET2018Entry team via e-mail, who have confirmed those errors and have advised us they are looking into the matter. So let's see.

Who did you report this to ? Do I have the contact details please?

You can contact them through above e-mail ID.

Thanks so much
My son said he couldn't decipher the questions there onwards, he didn't think they made sense. I think it sounds like a plausible explanation now you say your son identified the printing errors.
I'll send an email too, although not sure it would make the slightest bit of difference.
Thanks

It is not only my son. There are lots of other parents within our close circle whose children had complained about the same thing and have also written it to the SET team.

How can they be so slapdash in producing the papers when the children have put in so much work!

Hi Mums. I read this thread with interest as my son had a similar experience at the Sutton SET. He said he got stuck on the Maths questions and, in the end, ran out of time. He completed the English test with half hour to spare. Other Mums I've spoken to have confirmed same. What is going on ?!!
