violin lessons

My dd1 (aged 8) has been receiving violin lessons at school in a small group since September. She practices daily (unprompted!) and is really loving it! Her teacher said that she's making excellent progress and he's thinking in terms of her taking grade 1 in theno too distant future. I haven't got a clue about what this is or what it entails and wondered if anyone out there could enlighten me and/or provide a link to a syllabus website? (If such a thing exists?!) Sorry to be so clueless but I'd love to be more help to her and I haven't a clue where to start! Thanks

Hi, doglover - the exam will be ABRSM and you can get CDs etc, can't see any helpful inf for parents but you could probably ring up!

Good luck to dd1

Might not be ABRSM - DD's school does Trinity Guildhall exams instead (although the senior school does ABRSM!)

But I agree that as long as she is practising let her music teacher be the lead and just encourage her to perform for you from time to time. Performing is a big part of her violin exams apparently.

It is frustrating for me though that I cannot give her guidance, hints and tips until I have had chance to view a lesson and talk to the teacher.

Thanks, guys. I'll follow your advice. I'm just delighted that she derives so much pleasure from her music!
