We have Easter as long weekend and then two weeks off for Easter holiday . Hold on will lokk for actual dates. Easter is 31st March (good Friday)...

cece · 02/04/2007 23:00

Whoops Easte is 21st March (Good Friday)

End of Spring Term is 4th April. Go back 21st April

Linnet · 02/04/2007 23:00

No our "Easter Holidays" next year are before Easter. They get two weeks off then go back and then are off again for Easter Weekend. I'm happy about this as it means that I won't have to fight so much for my holidays from work as the school holidays aren't tagged onto the Easter weekend when more people want to be off work.

JanH · 02/04/2007 23:01

AFAIK all LEAs will have Easter weekend and then the 2 middle weeks of April off (Easter is in March, fairly early)

This means that holidays companies get 4 weeks to charge over the odds for

Linnet · 02/04/2007 23:02

oops got it the wrong way round, it's Easter Weekend then back to school for 4 days then finish for two weeks holiday.

SlightlyMadSpringBunny · 02/04/2007 23:07

So when is easter next year. Our easter holiday is from Fri 21st March - Fri 4th April inclusive, returning on Mon 7th April.

So it looks like our easter holiday is actually at easter - there is just one extra day at teh beginning for good friday IYSWIM

SlightlyMadSpringBunny · 02/04/2007 23:09

Our holidays are always different to the rest of the country tho. Works well for getting cheap off peak holiday rates tho

ChasingRabbits · 02/04/2007 23:15

Easter Holiday from 21 March to 4 April 2008 - Cambridgeshire

SlightlyMadSpringBunny · 02/04/2007 23:17

Shall we go on holidy together for half the price of every one else then Chasing Rabbit???

Linnet · 02/04/2007 23:18

I'm in Scotland my dd's school is getting

Easter Weekend Friday 21st-Monday 24th 2008

Then finish Friday March 31st and start back on Monday April 14th.

We get two weeks for our Easter holidays up here.

JanH · 02/04/2007 23:19

Ah - this is why holiday companies are charging extra for FOUR weeks!

2 weeks from 21/3-4/4, for areas doing proper Easter hols, and then 2 more weeks from 4/4 - 18/4 for the others

SlightlyMadSpringBunny · 02/04/2007 23:20

So I went get my cheap hol then?

JanH · 02/04/2007 23:24

Well, it depends where and who with, bunny - others may be different but I work for the cottages4you company (English Country Cottages, Country Holidays, Welcome and sundry foreign brands) and we are charging extra for the whole 4 weeks (makes me v cross but what can I do??)

ChasingRabbits · 02/04/2007 23:27

ummm (whispers so as not to start a row) we are probably just going the week before May half term and taking ds1 out of school (not that he is there yet).

JanH · 02/04/2007 23:30

I'm doing that this year, CR

DS2 is in Y9 and will be doing SATS the 2nd week of May - other years he's had school exams right after half-term but this year he hasn't so we have booked a hol 23/5 - 5/6 (haven't told school yet though aaaargh)

ChasingRabbits · 02/04/2007 23:36

We normally go away for a week mid-may then 2 weeks late sep/oct.
I know that the 2 weeks sep/oct will have to go (maybe tag a couple of days onto half term and take 10 days - but still end up paying a fortune) as I don't think its fair to take him out at the beginning of the term (especially in his 1st year).
Going anywhere nice?

JanH · 02/04/2007 23:41

Costa del Sol, CR - may say Andalucia for school's benefit though as it sounds posher

I think you're right not to take your DS out at the start of Reception - let him settle in first. We had 2 weeks away in Oct half term when DS2 was in Y7 - we left 2 days beforehand and returned 2 days after - at the time I promised we'd never take him out of school during termtime again

SlightlyMadSpringBunny · 03/04/2007 23:24

Our school have arranged a discount with the local travel agent as as long as we book for term time.

It is only £150 tho and still doesn't bring the cost of a holiday down to that taken during term time...
