DD has had humongous feet since birth but no at age ten and a ladies size 6 (probably 6.5 by September) she can no longer get the Startrite Sambas she's been in since infants. Can anyone recommend a brand that does plain black school shoes in a 6 and larger that are suitable for growing feet?

Clarks school shoes def go larger than a 6

Farahilda · 14/07/2017 16:13

Try Geox brogues. Also Ecco

DD was a 6 at 11, lace up brogue style shoes work for her and she got them from Clarks, the ladies shoes were cheaper though than the children's Grin - both were available in a size 6 and I think they go up several sizes more. We have a back up pair of shoes from Tesco but as they are not leather she doesn't wear them every day.

My dd was in size 5 by age 10. Now 12, she's edging a 6.

Everything is hard to find, including school trousers.

Anyway, at the moment dd is wearing Dr Martin shoes which seem to be good for school.

Most brands will do smart black shoes appropriate for school you just need to look in the women's section rather than the children's one. I've worn plain black size 6 flat shoes for work for years and picked them up from Clarks as well as supermarkets, windsors, shoe zone and schuh. Brands last longer but all these places stock plain black flat shoes.

Missing the point, but aren't hobbits small and therefore have tiny feet? Confused

maud they're tiny with large (hairy) feet

MaudGonneMad · 15/07/2017 12:29

Ah, so their feet are out of proportion to their size? Good to know. As you were. Grin

Clarks do school shoes up to at least size 7 from the children's department. I know because dd has a pair. Think they go up to 8 for girls.

troutsprout · 16/07/2017 01:10

Clarks ladies up to 9 in shop but I was told some styles go larger (and can be ordered in )
The Clarks ladies brogues v good (Dd had those in past )
Dd is 14 .. wears 8.5 / 9
She currently wears DMs to school

ExplodedCloud · 16/07/2017 01:16

Dd has some ladies Clarks shoes that are designed for people who are on their feet all day with cushiony insoles. They're a Mary Jane style so not at odds with the delicate friends. She's 10 with size 5.5 in a wide fitting. I'm a narrow 5.5 so she has more foot than me.

Tolkien never mentioned large feet as a hobbit trait. Just hairy with leathery soles.

Clarkes definitely go bigger than a 6. Half the girls in my 10YO's class have feet bigger than mine (size 5) - it's a thing with this generation, I'm sure.

We have trouble finding good quality, suitable school shoes for Dd(10) who is a size 5. We have recently had better luck with Dr Martens for heavier styles in the winter, and surprisingly, Next for lighter Mary Jane style shoes. (We had problems with The doc marten Mary Jane sizing, the 4 was too small and the 5 way too big)
Next was recommended to us and though I was doubtful it turned out well. They do some older girls styles up to size 7 and seem to be well made, lasting far longer than her Clarks shoes did.

Somerville · 16/07/2017 12:13

The film versions gave them big feet, but this isn't canon, Shipwrecked. I'm very sure, because Tolkien is one of my aspie nephew's area of expertise. Wink

I actually did know this (especially as you posted it earlier and I believe you) I was just posting a pretty picture for those who needed a visual aid Grin
