Junior Maths Challenge

My son has just finished year 6 and I've only just had the result of the JMC on which he got a bronze.
I have no idea how to gauge this? Any help appreciated.
I know about the JMC and know it's tough and meant to stretch them but don't know how to gauge the different medals. What to they indicate?
I would say he is above average in Maths but certainly not excellent - it's his least favourite subject - although he is in the top set.

Means he was in the top 40% (but not the top 20%) of entrants nationally - that's good for year 6. Did he enjoy it? If he reckons it was more fun than classroom maths, it might be worth looking at some more, eg the links here:
