Hi Peeps
We are planning on moving to South West Wales around Carmarthen. Looking for some advice on independent schools for my 7year old son (year 3 at the moment) and possible areas to live for a young family. I've been in touch with Llandovery College, Oakleigh House and St Michaels. Constructive feedback appreciated

Thanks xx

Oakleigh House is in Swansea and is a hell of a journey every day. St Mikes is a good distance too but they do run an extensive bus network and is more academic and traditional than the Swansea Schools.

I have to ask why Carmahen unless you have family ties down there? It is very beautiful but it has a high proportion of Welsh speakers as a first language and indeed Welsh in compulsory in schools, it didn't used to be in the 80s when I was s kid. If you are coming down from London then maybe Swansea might be less of a culture shock as it's more diverse and is s City plus the West of the City and Gower are beautiful plus there are great state schools if that would be of interest.

You've probably covered them there. I known a few who have been to Llandovery College, and that would probably be first choice for ones travelling from Carmarthen.

There are a couple of very good lea schools in the area if you wanted any suggestions (one very good English one in Carmarthen, and a bilingual one nearby - St Clears which is about 10 mins from Carmarthen. Oh, and a few that I'd completely avoid.

Thanks for getting back to me! Carmarthen because my husband recently acquired his own business there........I totally agree with it being a culture shock though.
School visits are planned next week but the issue I have now is that we will have to move sooner than we had planned and looking for a suitable area to live in - any recommendations will be appreciated.
Thanks x

Hi, can recommend state around Swansea from friends who still live there but not Carmathen. Are you seeing St Mikes? If so would love some recent feedback. Good luck x
