Ds hates these dressing up days!

Since he started in the nursery class in September, there have been 2 dressing up days and another one tomorrow. First Halloween which ds point blank refused to attend and I agreed if he was scared then he should not be there.
Then they had a pink day and he wore a pinkish T-shirt.
Tomorrow is red nose day and they are invited to dress big, red or glitzy. Fine, ds will wear a red T-shirt. But he's panicking about it, I think he finds this change from the normal routine a bit hard and although I've told him its just dressing up and nothing wierd will happen, I know we'll struggle to get him in in the morning.
Anyone else's child like this? How can I help him? He can't just not attend on these days can he? So how can I get him used to it as I'm sure it will be a regular fixture of the school calendar in one way or another.

How old is he? It might be a bit overwhelming for him poor lamb. Does he enjoy nursery the rest of the time?

my son worries about this kind of thing - he doesn't like 'getting it wrong' and hates it if he doesn't know exactly what is expected. He finds it unsettling that he might make a mistake and be too different.

I don't like the pressure either!

my dd too, and me too, still cannot decide what to wear, we are going to be late tomorrow i know we are. there were tears at bedtime about it tonight, sigh,

What happens if you go overboard with how great he looks in his red tshirt. I'm guessing he's 3 maybe just 4? He might just need a bit of a confidence boost. If you still haven't decided now what they'll wear, do they pick up on your concern?

Well it all went fine! I spent some time explaining it was a chance not to wear usual clothes but to be a bit silly or just wear something red. He was very reassured when he saw his teachers looking daft but not sinister! He said the day was "normal"

And yes he adores nursery most of the time. I think he just needs to feel a degree of control and security being away from me, and this type of unusual day unsettles him a little.
Anyway I think this day may have been a bit of a breakthrough for us.

My DS was exactly the same - hated dressing up/face painting etc. Then he started school - the first dressing up day in reception - he was just about the only one in the whole school who wasn't dressed up. He seemed to realise he was missing out on the fun and now he's in year 1 and really looked forward to dressing up for book day and for red nose day today.
