MyMaths - what can the teachers see?

Dd has been getting MyMaths as homework pretty much all term. What I am wondering is when she gets questions wrong can the teacher go into her record and see the questions she has got wrong? If not, I don't see how she is going to learn anything from continually making mistakes that are not picked up and explained.
Anyway, I'm interested to know what can/can't be seen by the teacher before I query it with the teacher.

Don't know what they can see but, as directed by his teacher, if ds doesn't get it all correct he does it again until he does.

At parents evening ds's maths teacher told me what marks he has been getting for my maths homework.

As a secondary school maths teacher, I can tell you that Mymaths homework is set purely to cut down on the amount of marking a teacher has to do. I would be very concerned if your DC is set it regularly. It is fine to have it occasionally but it really is not a good platform for learning.

My DD received mostly handwritten homework set by teacher, marked in class and then re-explained, and then as an addition they get the same topic's homework on my maths. The teacher briefly discusses how they achieved and they are able to ask more questions.

There is an L in the top corner of each mymaths homework which will take her to the interactive mymaths lesson on that topic. In addition, if she is set homework on mymaths, she will be presented with two buttons, one with the lesson on, and one with the homework on, so she can easily work through the lesson before doing the homework.

If she's not doing that, then I'd suggest that first.

We can click on what the pupils have got wrong.. but we can also see how many times they did the work to get it right too :)

What's more annoying is the time wasted having to do the questions in each section that they got right in the first place - it doesn't just let you do the one you got wrong again, you have to do the whole damn lot which just sucks away your time. Our son's maths teacher insists on 100% right so poor DS has to keep doing it until he gets it. Teacher sets no homework other than mymaths - twice a week without fail. Never does any marking except for termly tests.

DD year 7 only gets my maths homework teachers expect them to get 75% or it's classed the same as not doing homework. DD had mymaths homework at primary, just gets on with it and prefers this style as work to the photocopied homework hand outs with little space for working out. She has dyslexia and struggles keeping her writing tidy within a tiny space. Its worrying comments about teachers shouldn't just be setting this style of homework especially as she's in Secondary.

DD doesn't struggle with maths (unlike English), always does it off her own bat without nagging and works independently and almost always manages to get well above the required scores except when rushing or stubbornly insisting on doing it on her iPad.

This is why, when I taught Maths, I didn't like setting MyMaths homework-I could never see where the pupils went wrong because I couldn't see their working out. I would query why it is being set as they only homework-it has its place to aid learning but not as a full replacement, in my opinion.

Just lazy teachers.

My son had a teacher in year 8 who did all mymaths, and he ended up doing quite badly in the end of year exams as he'd had so little experience/practice in writing down the workings/answers on the question paper.

Luckily, in year 9, a different teacher who barely used mymaths at all - just basically left it to the kids to use as extra practice or revision - she regularly set homework from a text book, to be written showing full workings, and they'd usually self-mark in class with her randomly collecting the books once every 2-3 weeks for her to mark instead (so they'd never know if she was marking it, so they had to do it and do it properly just in case!). My son got a very high score at the end of that year.

Then year 10, back to a different teacher who did nothing but mymaths, and again, poor exam marks at the end of year.

It obviously has it's place, but I don't think there should be any single teaching method used so extensively - surely it should be a mix of different methods to suit kids who learn better in different ways?

Dd has only been set this as revision before an exam. I told her the teacher can see what time she did it so if she does it too late, the teacher will wonder why she wasn't in bed. (As if! )
