Teacher humiliating kids?

Kids are being made to do 100 monkey jumps if they are late! Surely that is humiliation? DS is very rarely late and if he is, it's due to traffic, not his fault, probably the case for most kids. Even if it's not the traffic, it's the parents that make the effort to get their kids to school on time Why should the kids be humiliated?!

It sounds rather Dickensian.
I can't believe that this is allowed to happen.
I have never heard of monkey jumps before - it all sounds horribly humiliating for the children.
I would round up a group of similarly concerned parents, make an appointment with the teacher, and find out exactly what is going on.

How can anyone possible do 100 of these jumps? Perhaps this woman was subjected to this sort of treatment herself or maybe she has been reading the big book of army training for 6-7 year olds!

DumbledoresGirl · 15/03/2007 12:31

I don't agree with the punishment, but being late is also not on. If traffic is going to be a problem, you should leave the house earlier. Lateness is a discourtesy to all and in schools has to be marked as such. The school is supposed to aim for as little lateness and absences as possible.

I wonder why a school would allow someone who has just come out of uni to deal out these sorts of punishments. Perhaps they are understaffed and nobody is keeping an eye on this teacher, or the school fully condones this treatment.

I guess if no-one complains, the head may not even know it's happening!

I sent a kid out yesterday as I couldn't cope, it was 3 yesterday, please start a thread about me as I am vain and self centred and would love the attention.

powder28 · 15/03/2007 13:26

So what do you think about all this twinsetandpearls?

twinsetandpearls · 15/03/2007 22:07

Think it is very odd and can't see why this is allowed to happen. HUmiliating kids is always wrong.

chocolateface · 16/03/2007 20:35

What else is the teacher doing to humiliate the children? you can bet it's not just mponkey jumps. Does the head and the governers knowabout this? If you're in anyway unhappy with any aspect of a teachers behaviour make a fuss, & a big one now. I allowed my son to be bullied by a teacher for a year and on the last day of the summer term(when he was leaving the school) she became abusive. I don't think the head knew the full extent of what was going on (even we didn't!)Please don't let this continue. You could always go into the class, expalain it's your fault your child's late and do the monkey jumps. Should be quite disruptive!

lenaschildminding · 16/03/2007 20:50

I've found out that one of the other parents has complained to the head, it's not so much of an issue for me personally, as ds's very rarely late anyway. My concerns were more for the other children who are being subjected to it in his class.

Satnge thing is, one of the parents of a child in ds's class is a governor! I would like to think it was her!
