Hi, does any have children at The Mall in Twickenham? Or can anyone tell me anything about it good or bad? We'd be looking at a 7+ start, into year 3. Thanks.

My son is in Year 7 at KCS, in the lower school. He is very happy, well challenged and thriving. It was indeed a pity that the head of lower school departed after his first term, but she was poached to become deputy head at Hampton, which I suspect only shows what an excellent job she had been doing at KCS! The new head of the lower school has seamlessly taken over and we have every confidence in him, and the school. My son was at an independent junior school which finished at 11, and without the introduction of the 11+ entry at KCS would not have had the opportunity to take advantage of this superb education. Entry was highly competitive but the intake was 50/50 from state/private junior schools, as it was last year,. I would highly recommend you consider it.

Mummiemoochkins, threre has always been an intake at 11+, it used to be about 18 mainly state school boys into the prep and now they have doubled it and the boys go straight into the senior school. But if half of those going in are from preps it hasn't increased the state school entry. When DS joined at 13+ only about half of the original 11+ intake were still there so it may be that they hope to retain more with the new system.
The head of lower school isn't the only member of senior staff to leave kings recently. Deputy head at Hampton is a sideways move from assistant head at Kings, similarly in December another assistant head left to become a deputy head at St Johns, another sideways move. Last year the most senior deputy head Ms Hunnibal left Kings for other pursuits, and Mr Milne (the most popular assistant/deputy head) left to become head of Emmanuel. Thats a lot of change in the SLT. Not sure what's happening but glad it's DS's last year.
