Hi Mums,

Is anyone required to label all clothing for their child, including socks? Labels don't work for socks - what is your solution?

Thanks,
Natalie

It's not required, but rugby socks in specified colours can be expensive to keep replacing.

I fold a woven/sew-on nametape in half and stitch it (vertically) in to the top cuff of the sock, so that half shows each side.

dementedpixie · 20/03/2017 17:52

No I don't label socks. I have seen iron on transfers for socks

KikiDeliversCakes · 20/03/2017 17:54

I use a laundry pen and write the surname (only us at the school) on the sole or inside the cuff. Repeat every few washes...

LIZS · 20/03/2017 17:56

Of course you can sew labels into socks, or iron on under the foot. Whether you can be bothered is another matter!

AlexanderHamilton · 20/03/2017 17:57

I buy iron on name transfers for dd's socks.

ShiningWhit · 20/03/2017 17:58

yes transfers - white on black - black on white - I get mine from Denmark - put them on the arch bit.

I don't label socks, but I do use Stikins from Labelplanet. They do labels that will stick to fabric, there's one sort to go on care labels and another sort that you can iron on and it'll bond to any fabric. That would work for socks.

ShiningWhit · 20/03/2017 18:03

I got them from www.labelyourself.com

Allthebestnamesareused · 20/03/2017 19:37

Easy2name.co.uk do sock labels that iron on the sole

happygardening · 20/03/2017 23:08

I used to stitch embroidered name tags into all DS2's socks (he went to boarding school) iron ones always come off eventually. I used to buy them on line lots of companies make them. But at his senior school the boys put their dirty socks/underpants in zip p net bags with their names on so I stopped sewing name tags in as it's such a tedious job.
I also found that if your nice to the matrons they'll do it for you.

thebakerwithboobs · 20/03/2017 23:26

We have boarders so yes, socks need a label. We use snappy tags for socks:

snappytags.co.uk/

It saves sewing them in....

I label rugby / hockey socks because they are £8 a pair! I sew a woven nametape vertically on to the outside of the back of the top cuff of the sock (so it ends up behind their knee). Horizontally doesn't work because of the elasticity of the sock.

user1471537877 · 22/03/2017 09:25

Marks and spencer black socks have a white patch on the cuff where you can write with a laundry marker

Rugby socks I also sew near the knee but DS still somehow looses the things Hmm

PettsWoodParadise · 26/03/2017 08:36

We use stretchable iron on labels for socks. These ones from identity direct don't seem to come off unless you tumble dry on high temp www.identitydirect.co.uk/stretchable-clothing-labels.html

Ojoj1974 · 26/03/2017 22:43

Yes every item of clothing is labelled with Cashs labels machine sewn. Totally fed up of losing kit. Mine kids are at boarding school.

1805 · 27/03/2017 08:25

if at boarding school, try and buy socks from the school shop, then they will be labelled by the school for you.
