Where do your kids do their homework?

Dd1 likes to do her homework in her bedroom (which she shares with dd2) - and we let her (but no way would we let dd2 ). She currently has to do it on the floor but we have just been given a desk (yay!). Dd2 does hers on the dining table under supervision. They are 9 and 8.

Interested to know where your kids do theirs and at what age they are capable of doing it unsupervised. (Though as I have just proved it is dependent on personality to an extent - I can't imagine letting dd2 doing hers unsupervised at 9!!)

Well, my oldest will be 5 in May, he does his homework at the dining table, I'm trying to get him into the habit of doing it there. I seem to remember doing mine at the table til I went to high school, but like you say it depends on the child....

My 8yo does homework in study. We are cutting back on helping him, as it was turning into our homework! He is of course allowed to ask if he's not sure what to do.

I find with dd2 it's a case of keeping her "on task" as she is easily distracted otherwise. Dd1 thrives on the peace and quiet and can be left to her own devices to produce great work.

I never had homework until I went to secondary school at 11 and I did my work in my room from the word go - looking back I don't think that was a good idea, I was too much like dd2

She has a desk in her room but she tends to do her homework in the kitchen at the kitchen table.

My dd does hers at our kitchen table with me in the room cooking or whatever. She is supposed to do most of it herself but I do answer questions as to how to do it without giving her the answers.

She is 10 but still works better if she feels someone is interested.

Ds1 is only 5 so it's only reading and spellings and we do spellings in the car or in the kitchen and reading in the lounge or his bedroom.

Once he's older and is doing 'proper homework' he will have a desk in his room.

DS is just 6. He does his homework (usually a worksheet once a week) and spellings at the kitchen table. Reading is wherever.

Ds (13) does his at lunchtime at school, or on the dining table or computer in the living room.

Dd(6) does hers at the dining table with me beside her. My biggest problem is keeping ds(3)quiet & distracted while she's doing it. Almost impossible!

My 2 dd's (7 and 5) do theirs at the dining room table, dh or I sit with them to help dd2 and top be there if dd1 needs us to assist.

kids 10 and 7 do it at the dining table, pretty soon after coming in from school, I usually potter about and supervisie from a distance, to keep them on task, encourage longer answers/ sentences, neat work etc and then I check it and sign it when finished.

No TV on when working, DD knows she has to play quietly/ up stairs until DS finishes and he does the same for her.

Dd1 (10) independent and self-sufficient. Does hers quietly in her room and always on time.
Ds1 (7) downstairs, loudly, with a great deal of fuss. Wouldn't do it at all if I didn't make him.

I wish more schools would phase out homework!!!

Kitchen table, Saturday pm, grumbling ...

DSs are 7.5 (nearly 8 - crikey where does the time go?) and 9.5

They both do their homework at the table in the dining room, unsupervised; straight after after-school-snack.

It doesn't take long (c.10-15 mins), and is usually very easy. I rarely even check it these days: just glance at it.

I don't really approve of primary homework, but at least they are learning good habits

not dh's habits of prevaricate as long as possible, lie to the teacher, negotiate a deadline, miss that and end up in detention ..

They mostly do their homework on the kitchen table, but dd2 sometimes rebels and does hers lying on the bathroom floor!!

Same schedule as roisin. Apart from at kitchen table because we don't have a dining room. They are 7 and 5 and mostlt get on with it themselves. I listen to dd (5)read later. They don't get much homework, thank god
