He had to write a maths problem involving %.

He has written:
Luke went into JJB's to buy a Villa Kit for £30. 30 mins later, Matthew went in and got the same kit for 34% less than Luke. How much did Matthew's kit cost?

How do we work out the answer? What is the formula?

I would be so grateful for some help, I could never do percentages at school.

30 divided by 100 x 34 = the discount??

errrm, im really pants at math

Work out 34% of £30 i.e. 30 * 34/100

Then take the answer away from the £30

1% of £30 is 30p. times by 34= £10.20 That gives you the 34% and take that from the £30 which is £19.80

Matthew's cost as % of Luke's price is
100 - 34 = 66 %
so actual cost is
66/100 x £30
= £ 19.80
