Rushmore School vs Mossbourne Riverside Academy Hackney

Hello,

We are really torn between Rushmore and Mossbourne Riverside Academy.

We live very close to Rushmore and we like the school and its community aspect.

Mossbourne is not on our doorstep, so we are afraid we would miss out on the local community network that Rushmore would give us. But we are are really impressed by their facilities and drive for excellence. We are equally concerned about their strict approach.

Would love to hear from parents whose children attend either school.

Mossbourne now gives priority entry to the vastly oversubscribed secondary, if that appeals- otherwise you may well have little to no chance. Obviously that's a long way off!

Francis, which school did you choose in the end? How is it going are you happy with you decision? We are in the same situation, trying to decide, and live midway between the two schools! Any feedback you can provide would be most helpful. Thanks

I am in the same predicament a year later and just wondered what decision you made and if you’re happy with it? We’re choosing between Lauriston school and Mossbourne riverside. Lauriston is much closer to us and seems good. But I too was really impressed by the facilities at Mossbourne, but worry about missing out on the local aspect....

Don't know Mossbourne, but have family at Lauriston (incl a parent who is highly experienced working in primary education) and they are very happy with it. Great new building, well-supported by local professional families but not precious. Seems like a lovely school. And there is an enormous amount to be said for going to a local school, especially at primary level.

Thanks, yeah I am leaning towards local, especially as my little one is an only child, I think it’s good to be local for friends to pop round. But he did love Mossbourne- he loves rugby! I’m findibg it a difficult decision. Do you know how easy it is to change schools in year 1 if I change my mind!

If he already loves rugby, is he playing it at weekends? One of my DD's friends plays in your area (we are in a different part of N London) and loves it. As I said I really don't know Mossbourne at all, but if I had Lauriston on my doorstep I'd be there in a heartbeat. I cannot stress too much the benefits of being part of a great local primary community. That said, if it doesn't work out - with the caveat that again I don't know the nuances of E9 - it's generally easier to change schools in London than elsewhere as people move more. There's also been a birth rate drop in current years N-2 which means there's an oversupply of places in the primary system and hence more flexibility. BUT I would ask both schools if they are full in current Y1 to get a sense of how this plays out locally. It could well be that they both have waiting lists. Good luck with your decision!

Thanks, yeah he does play with a little rugby Trytime group on Saturdays. I think I am going to go for Lauriston and if unhappy can always rethink, but it’s a good idea to check how full the other school is.
