Hi,
We are planning to relocate to Brecon. Can anyone make any recommendations on the best state secondary school in Brecon please?
I really appreciate any help and advice.

Brecon is in Powys LA and you do not have a lot of choice. There is Brecon High School, Crickhowell, Gwernyfed and Builth Wells High in the surrounding area but Brecon High is the only one actually in the town of Brecon.
You can look at the inspections for these schools on the Estyn site, Brecon High is currently in special measures.

I don't have children but am local. Gwernyfed always seems to be highly spoken of. Lots of recent discussion on schools in Powys as Council wanted to close/ merge various secondary schools. Only recently decided to keep Brecon High and Gwernyfed separate and Gwernyfed open. Lots in local press about it.

Gwernyfed is rumoured (and quite likely) to close, Crickhowell has v good reputation. If I were relocating to the area I'd try to be in Crickhowell catchment. Powys as an LA is pretty dire on the education front tbh - lots of high schools in special measures and the ones that aren't threatened with closure or downsizing. Christ College in Brecon supposed to be great, but fee-paying.

Oh, that's good about Gwernyfed.

Crickhowell has a fab reputation but is getting increasingly difficult to get into from out of area with many parents from Blaenau Gwent trying to get their children in.

Thank you all so much for your help and advice....contacting Crickhowell and Gwernyfed to see what the in year admission possibilities are.
