Homework help! Anyone know a good riddle for a year 3?

The homework says (ask your parents to..!) look in books, search the web etc but all I can find aren't really riddles but jokes. I'm thinking along the lines of "What has 3 legs in the morning, one leg at night, but 4 before bedtime?" I just made that up so it's not real! But the 'riddles' online are all along the lines of "What can't a giraffe eat breakfast? Because dah dah dah", iyswim! Many thanks! Please note, though it SEEMS like cheating, me doing it an' all, I think the idea is for 7 year olds to grasp exactly what a riddle IS and how they work, eg play on words and how things can have different meanings depending on their context!

What goes up a chimney dwon but not down a chimney up

What has roots that nobody sees, is taller than trees up, up it goes but never grows

30 horses on a red hill first they champ then they stamp then they stand still

A box without hinges key or lid
yet inside golden treasure is hid

Oh there are loads of riddles on Raven (the programme) - wonder if there are any on the website?

A bit crap, but the best I can do an a Friday. What are you doing homework on a Friday for???? Surely this is a Sunday night thread??!!

What has a face and hands but no eyes? (clock)

What disappears when you stand up? (your lap)

What do you break as soon as you speak? (silence)

Not sure if they are riddles though...?

Thanks! And tell me your answers Katymac! We've been wildly guessing!

I agree I'm a mad woman looking at this before Sunday evening- it's just homework in this house so frequently ends in tears I now 'get in early' to pounce on the moment I think will cause less grief!

In marble walls as white as milk,
Lined with a skin as soft as silk,
Within a fountain, crystal clear,
A golden apple doth appear.
No doors there to this stronghold,
Yet thieves break in and steal the gold

(An egg)
