Private School advice needed

My boy will be in secondary school next year. He has done the exams in 3 grammar school.
For more option, we registered in 1 private school. Don't know much about the procedure, can any one tell me:

1. when they will ask for the recommendation letter from current headteacher.
2. do I need to talk with headteacher about my boy.

Any advice appreciated!

The private school will almost certainly ask for a report from his current school, and yes, I would warn his head teacher that a request will be in its way! Good luck.

1 probably around the time of the exam sitting, so maybe later this term
2 no, only if invited to a parent interview - some schools do , some don't
