DS1 will take his GCSEs this year and so we're starting to think about what he'll do next year. or at least I am , he appears to have no ideas and no interest!

He should do OK in GCSE, enough to get onto a decent BTEC course, probably not to do A Levels, at least not in Maths or Science.

However, he has no idea what he wants to do. We're going to do the rounds of the local colleges in the hope inspiration strikes. What should we be looking for? He doesn't have a favourite subject at school and no strong interest in sport/art/music/science etc. The only thing he's really passionate about is Army Cadets but he doesn't want to join the army (phew!)

We found it really hard for DD, as she didn't have a career in mind, and BTECs by definition are sending down a career route. We ended up with travel and Tourism for her as she likes visiting places, languages and history. A year in she still isn't excited by it but I think it is the right course.

Both Uniformed Public Services and Outdoor Pursuits might suit someone who likes Army Cadets. What other interests does he have?

Go round them all and see what if anything grabs him. Don't forget that an Apprenticeship might be an option too.
