How good is my son's natural singing voice?

Hi, I posted in a different section asking about if my son should audition for a Broadway show, someone asked how good his singing voice is. I'm wondering if, as this is the education topic, there are any teachers, etc. who could give feedback?

He is in church choir and school drama club, but can't afford private tutoring, etc.

Still not sure how this site works 100%, is this a different site to chat? Or are the same people on both?

You ask if he should audition for a Broadway show, do you have one in mind? Would you get a work permit for the states?

My son's school have recommended that he auditions for the National Youth choir, if you google it, there is information about auditions.

I don't know where you are geographically. My DC are members of a children's stage company. They get the chance to appear in professional shows. DS has performed in 2 West End shows, one for 6 weeks, the other 3 months. DD1 has done 2 panto seasons, plus 3 months with her brother in the West End. They have also both appeared locally in a number of other professional shows.

Even DD2 (5) has done a week in regional show.

Ooo, he's fab! Lots of natural talent.

I'm no professional though, so hopefully one comes along!

There are auditions coming up for a certain show, he wants to do them. Just not sure if it would be worth it, as he has never had training.

My Dd17 has been into singing since she was 11 and is now taking the classical/operatic route. We did get private lessons for her since she turned 12 and it made a huge difference. She sang with our National Operatic company in their junior section and with our national youth choir. She also had lots of opportunities for solos at school concerts and youth competitions, music festivals and concerts. I sourced auditions and she always did well. She's studying overseas now but she's getting involved in the local music scene.

I know you said you can't afford singing lessons, but at your son's age, group singing would be better than nothing. Are there local clubs/societies that he can join? I would certainly take him along to auditions, his natural voice sounds promising and his confidence is excellent.

I discovered my DD as a good singer when she was cast as Mary in the school nativity/pageant. I had her in singing lessons the following January and the progress has been amazing.

She refuses to be in church choir, and is reluctantly in her school chamber choir. She is however in an auditioned touring choir, which is award winning and outstanding. The vast majority of their repertiore is sacred songs, but not dirgy.

To do musical theatre, it is also important to sing and act.
