Hi all,

We were set on my daughter starting Highdown school in Reading but have just been offered places in both Langtree and Gillots schools.
Does anyone have any thoughts on these schools?
DD is a bright young thing, loves to learn and we're trying to find the best fit for her.
She's not very sporty and does seem to prefer the arts.

Location to home isn't an issue as we're more than willing to drive every day.

In terms of results they all seem very similar on looking at D of E data - I don't know Highdown but Langtree and Gillotts have very "nice" catchment areas - your DD should have no problem reaching her academic potential at either. Gillotts is quite a lot bigger than Langtree - I personally like big schools as I don't think getting "lost" is an issue with good pastoral care and you gain so much in terms of facilities and a wider range of people. But if your DD is a bit shy she might feel more comfortable in a smaller school. I would think about transport a bit - at least make sure there is a reasonable bus alternative even if you're not going to use it every day.

I don't think there's a bad choice here to be honest - My DD goes to a different South Oxfordshire school and we're delighted with it - I think all SO schools are in a purple patch at the moment. Assuming you've visited the schools I think you're quite safe to go with your instincts. Good luck.
