Advice on 6yr old writing please

Hello

My dd turned 6 in June and I wanted some advice on her writing please.... dd seems to twist her spellings around for example

diary spelt dairy
Again spelt agian

Two letters are switched over. However she gets 100% on spelling tests. The problem started in yr 1. No problem in reception dd would write out tricky words no problem.

Any advice please? She is quite bright and on top tables at school

It sounds quite normal to me. I know DS did similar, and still does if he's not paying attention. I would just keep an eye on it, and not worry too much.

This sounds entirely normal and not a cause for concern at all.

IME children often get 100% in spelling tests and then go on to spell those words wrongly in writing. The mistakes you highlight are not serious and I would not worry about it.

Thank you both. I was worried about dyslexia? HumphreyCobblers what is the best strategy in terms of correcting this should I mention to her. So far I tried to make it light hearted and call the errors twistywisty. Is it better to ignore or raise them as I see them?

Sorry but from my experience, I doubt shed be in all top groups if she had dyslexia or get 100% in Spelling tests.

Just correct her when you notice it. 'Oops the I and the A are mixed up.' No biggie.I mean even adults get things like that mixed up if they aren't great at spelling.

Those mistakes in a six year old are not indicative of dyslexia. As for mentioning it - that depends on the situation. If your child is writing for fun and clearly enjoying expressing themselves I would leave it tbh. She is not in school at the moment after all. Some children would thrive on being given the corrections, some would find it a bit depressing...it all depends on their personality and the situation.

You can always take the words and make spelling them correctly into a game.

Many adults confuse dairy and diary. It's an easy error if you have memorised the word as a whole and are trying to visualise it (look say cover write check method).
It's also very common for children to score 100% in spelling tests to spell the same words incorrectly in independent writing
