Russians always seem so miserable,is your teacher miserable

excuse the complete generalisation

moondog · 29/01/2007 22:10

Well,I had a lesson every day for a year.
I taught this business moghul coversational English and in return one of the women teaching in his language school taught me every day.

Business moghul was great.Afghan veteran called Vladimir. He used to invite me for long lunches in his marble clad business complex. Just me and him with about three or four slinky vixens waiting on.

Turkish very easy to read. Bloody long words though. So many suffixes.Turkish children have extraordinary syntactic awareness as a result form a very early age.

You should plan a trip. Will spur you on.
Check out the Black Sea coast.
A gem that will be teeming in ten years.
Standing on the Odessa steps was one of the best things I've ever done.
Subsequently being burnt to a crisp on an Odessa beach, then enduring a night of agony whilst also being serenaded by pissed Russians doing karaoke until 5:00 am was one of the worst things I have ever done.

CocoLoco · 29/01/2007 22:11

You think the six cases is bad, there's 2 different forms of every fecking verb (perfective and imperfective). Never did get the hang of that

Peaks and troughs ggirl.
And plenty of troughs, believe you me.

Would it make you feel better to know that I was once stuck in a Turkish flat for three whole days with a new baby and a toddler as the snow was so deep I couldn't get the pram out???

Then one day, suicidal at the laptop,I discovered MN....

fishie · 29/01/2007 22:16

my mum did a couple of years but seems to have stopped now and she is most stubbornest person existing. she learned cyrcillic as angsty teenager too so that wasn't new. (sil russian, her parents do not speak english)

brimfull · 29/01/2007 22:16

a bit better,not much

Mercy · 29/01/2007 22:20

dasvidanya and subaka

The ony 2 (almost certainly incorrect) Russian words I know. If you know German you can do Russian (so I am told)

But once you have it nailed cod you can read fab stuff like Chekhov in the original. Russian is a beautiful language and at least you are not stuck with pre-glasnost vocab like "I remember Little Rock and the Bay of Pigs you degenerate Capitalist Imperialist"
Here you are Mercy - vozrujh ujassa - "balance of terror". I think I prefer "goodbye dog"!

Marina · 29/01/2007 22:48

Oh and if he is in Belgium he is of course learning Flemish in his spare evenings at the hotel I hope

FrogPrincess · 29/01/2007 22:51
