Hi, are anyone other Mums netters children day boarders? Just wondering what some of the pros and cons are as we are thinking that we might send our ds to our local state boarding school as a day boarder for year 3. We are really having trouble deciding what to do so any opinions/ information gratefully received.
Thanks very much

Am I being thick, or is 'day boarder' a contradiction in terms? Surely you can only be a day boy/girl, OR a boarder?

DS started as a day boarder this year. Our school runs from Y7 so I don't know if our experience is relevant to you.
The yearly intake is 60, of which 16 are outboarders. Obviously I worried that he might feel out of the loop but the outboarders are a sufficiently large percentage for that not to be a problem. Also, I am sure that it helps that he is sporty so he gets team-bonding through that route.

The extra-curricular activities are out of this world!!

Also...

It might be interesting to investigate where the pupils come from. We are approx 8 miles from the school but live further away than about half the boarders!!

Is it selective or comp? Check the admission criteria because the Govt are talking about changing the National rules for comprehensives soon. If he goes now will you be able get in under the current rules, rather than leaving it until Y6 and the new rules? (random ballot)
