School waiting lists can I appeal?

I have removed my 12 year old dd from school because of two serious incidents of bullying against her since she started at the school. She has been very distressed by it all as she suffers with anxiety and depression, she was diagnosed with PTSD two years ago after witnessing a traumatic event. Pastoral care/support has been very poor and I feel that they were blaming her mental health for her being unable to cope with the bullying!
So I am now home educating her.
I am interested in two schools for dd, one is catholic but has excellent pastoral care with full time nurse who has experience in child mental health.
The other school is several miles away, but again has good pastoral care and on site counsellor.
Both have long waiting lists and probably do not have much chance, but I have been told I can put her on waiting lists.
I am confused, am I able to appeal for a place even if she is on a long waiting list?

We are not Catholic, but school will take christened children of other faiths and non baptised.

Yes you can appeal for any school, for any reason. Having said that, the stronger the grounds for appeal, the more likely you are to win. You are too late to have your appeal heard this side of the holidays now, but if you get your appeal forms in quickly you could have a hearing in the first part of the Autumn term.

Hi, we are moving From India in September and seeking admission for our ten year old son in one of the private schools in Richmond. I've written to all the private schools there and have heard from four with the same response, year 6 is fully booked, they can put my son's name on waiting but he's unlikely to get a seat. Since, there are others ahead of him. Is there an admission expert here who can guide me through the process or someone who has been in a similar situation?

Do you mean that you now intend to apply to state schools? If so you need to apply to Richmond Council. Unless you are in the Armed Forces or a UK Crown Servant you can't apply until you are actually living in Richmond. There is a form on the Council's website for you to complete allowing you to name up to four schools as preferences.

If you are after help with private schools I'm afraid the admission experts on Mumsnet are unlikely to be able to assist. Private schools set their own admissions process and are not subject to the Admissions Code. Unlike state schools they are not required to have an appeals process.
