Gap year during secondary school years

My child is in an independent secondary school. I am thinking about working overseas for an year. Wondering how easy to take a gap year at school and come back to the same school in an year time. Hoping to put in an international school while working overseas. Has anyone tried it? What's the best approach?

It is possible although we did a term as opposed to a year. Best to approach the head and speak to them, depending on how popular your child's school is you might have to pay a retaining fee to keep their place open.

Many kids go on year long foreign exchanges so your school may already have a policy for it.

I know of somebody who did it but they did have to pay a retaining fee and while they did slot back into the same year on return they didn't slot back into the same sets. I guess it depends how much they work on the year away but easy to slip behind relatively.
