jolly phonics illustrations - anyone else think they're vile?

Just a frivolous question but does anyone else hate the jolly phonics pictures? They look so bad - I'm sure they're meant to be simple and 'artless' and child friendly but I think they're slightly menacing in their total lack of artistic merit. They are just hideous! Really puts me off.

So glad I'm not alone in my hatred! I am a real illustration snob, if I don't like the pictures, I ain't reading it! Obv with JP I have no choice and have to push ahead while my flesh creeps.....

Well... whatever you think of the pictures as a method of teaching reading it is sucessful.

I'm sure you're right, no disprespect to the system or its efficacy, just wondered why the pictures couldn't have some artistic merit when there are so many wonderful illustrators who do perfectly simple drawings. Forgive the rant!
