What can your reception child count up to?

My little one has complex needs and this is in relation to those. What number can your 4-5 year old count up to?

She can count to 100, after that I guess it's all the same anyway.

Yes mine can do 100 too

100+ at 4yo.

Afaik they only need to be able to count 20? Bonus if more but on paper child a and child b will have reached ELG.

Dd can only count up to and down from 20

afterwards she goes 21, 52, 99, 100 if you get my drift.

She has trouble differentiating between numbers 15 & 13 on sight.

100 and beyond but she's always been good with numbers.

I have taught reception in the past and I think they're generally doing well if they can get to 30.

She seems to be possibly struggling in some areas, but can counted up to 120 tonight!! She only knew up to 40 a few weeks ago!!

YR DD counts to >100, can read numbers >100 but not infrequently make errors writing numbers e.g will write. 15 instead of 51 and doesn't always realise the error.
DS just turned 3y can count to 30 on a good day, up to 20 on an average day.
Neither child is a genius, it's pure practice - counting stairs, counting when brushing teeth (get up to 160 doing this so added bonus of clean teeth!), looking at bus numbers, door numbers etc.

Up to 100 but mainly it was learning 20/30/40 etc as she got the repetition of the numbers quickly

Joking aside, I would have thought it's quite unusual to be able to count to 120 "out of the blue"

DD can count up to 100 in 1's, 2,s, 5's & 10's and can count up to 1000 in 100's
She can count backwards from 100 in 1's

She has a brother in year 2 though who she learns with, I didn't teach her any of those on purpose

Counting my DD can count over 100 but applying her maths i'd say prob 30.

DD informed me she could count to a google tonight.... I had to google what a Google was, she is 5

DS is doing pretty well - can count up to 199 (and has done on many occasions in the car) and backwards from 20 maybe more. We run a professional basketball team and so he has good number recognition skills - would know for example the scores of 98 vs 74 and could say who was winning. He has recently learnt to count upwards and downwards in 10's to 100.

Am very proud of him as he is not 5 until the end of July and to be honest before he started reception though he was a little Tim nice but dim, but it turns out he isn't!

My son is in Reception and can count to 100, but it doesn't mean much, it's just depends how much they practice and repeat it. What is more important, is that they can apply it, it's more useful knowing number bonds to 10 than count to a 100. My son was doing doubling last week and found it really hard. He is my fourth child and hence neglected lol, but all of my children have found maths hard until they've got to about year 3, and then they've become little brain boxes. It's really hard to judge in Reception how well your child is doing - age also makes a huge difference.

Luna, you and your little one are doing wonderfully. Things have changed since our time, but be reassured my DC did fine later without being advanced at 5. One of them learned to count to 4 to count the candles on her 4th birthday cake (it might have been 5 for her fifth). My brother didn't even talk until he was 4. My nephew and niece didn't go to school until 7. I (precocious brat) would have been seen as the high achiever at that age, if such things were talked about then, but they are definitely the high achievers now. I am amazed at what the young children referred to on here can do, and good on them. Don't worry if your child can't match it - slower starts don't seem to have done lasting harm in this neck of the woods. Mind you, we didn't have to cope with assessments in Reception, and I hope I would have been strong if we'd had to and my children had failed!
