Nursery Governor

I am considering applying to be a parent governor at DS's nursery & I'm interested in any insights anyone may have.
I understand that it would be about 2 meetings per term with a bit of background work /research into specific areas.
It's a stand-alone community nursery - council funded but not attached to a primary school - with no religious affiliation. OFSTED outstanding. Same headteacher for 10+ years and low staff turnover.
Thanks
