Would you have done the same ?

School is on a very busy main road has a crossing further up the road and a lolly pop lady right outside the school.
A boy in ds's year who will be 7 or 8 he walks to school on his own and he is late most days. The lolly pop lady goes at 0905 and he is later than this. (I take other ds to nursery so I'm later out)
Twice in the last week people have made sure he gets across the road safely.
So today I went into school and told them what is happening. Would you have done the same or left it ?

I would have done the same. The boy's safety is the most important thing, and the school should be able to address any issues underlying why he is always late.

I would have done the same too. A child that age shouldn't be walking to school on his own. Do you know how far he walks? If it's a very short journey, perhaps ok, I'm talking within spitting distance. The road would still be a worry though. My ds's are 7 and 8 and I wouldn't let them walk on their own. You did right, the school should be made aware, although they may well have been already.

Yes, I would have done the same, I hope, given the lateness and lollipop lady not being around. I can't really judge whether it's OK for a 7 or 8 yo to walk on their own - mine is only 3 and it depends how far it is/what the area is like/main roads etc. etc. I was walking on my own at that age but it seems to be rare, now (and this was in a village where I knew everyone I met on the way and could have knocked on any door if I needed help).

This boy is known in school. He lives on part of a large estate and has a fair walk. We only live one road away but wouldn't let ds go on his own.
Last year even the lolly pop lady got knocked down.
I just thought that I couldn't not say anything I would never forgive myself if anything happened to him and I'd seen him doing it. I also thought of the children in the school how would they feel if something happened to him.
His mum does pick him up at the end of school.
i spoke to the head and they were very pleased I'd brought it to their attention.

I'm surprised the lollipop lady goes so early, though -- there's a school crossing on my way to work and there is always a lollipop person on duty up to about 9.15 (if I'm running late).

I think she's on duty from about 8.00 ish til 905 and then again at lunch time and going home time.

I would have said something too, imagine if you hadn't and something had happened to him.
8 is quite early for the lollipop lady to start, I can't imagine she has many children crossing at that time of the morning. Or maybe its just that I am not out that early in the morning.

Hopefully the school can sort something out to ensure he gets to school safely each day and maybe on time too.

She's on duty early for children going to breakfast club.(so it could be later than 8.00 but not much) School starts at five to nine.

I would have done the same. Our lollipop man stays until about 9.15 for the stragglers and also the mums who are dropping off at the nursery (9.00am) school starts at 8.55am. I think the lollipop lady should stay a bit longer myself. (bum job though, our lollipop man was pushed out of the way by a car a few months ago too... some drivers are just crazy)
