Lady Margaret school, Parsons Green

Does anyone have a daughter at this school? I would love to find out more about it and perhaps glean some tips for getting a place there!! Does anyone know of any web discussion forums that caters for parents wanting to exchange info about schools?

Another one joining the queue! I've seen some of the Lady Margaret School girls out and about and on the tube and they seem well-behaved and well-mannered, but would be interested to find out what it's like from someone lucky enough to be on the inside! I'm also wondering how it compares to Grey Coat Hospital School- another school currently on my wish list...

2Girls, not a parent there but have friends with girls there and a brother with one there too - all happy. Space a bit of an issue, and not great on sports (not a lot of facilities) but very good on art, drama, textiles etc and academics.

And, as I say, the four girls I know there are all happy - the most important bit. I knew one who wasn't, but it was cohort specific (mean girls in her class) and just bad luck, which can happen in most places. No details, just hearsay - whereas I do know the four happy ones!

Mean Girls can be everywhere I guess but as long as the school is good at dealing with it I would be happy .

Lovely school - my DD got a place there - we only turned it down because she got a big scholarship elsewhere.

The catchment distances for this year's entry should be out now, I think. Church places went out about a mile (certainly over the river to West Putney), for non-church places you need to live very near.

We had church places offered to kids in SW13. Non-church, forget it (unless on doorstep).

DD is in Y7 and it has surpassed our expectations on all fronts but particularly on sport. The head of PE is excellent and very proactive.

Academically DDs been challenged all year, which is great, and has flourished. It seems very organised, good communication, and she has more homework than DS gets but still what I'd call a healthy and manageable amount.

The headteacher is retiring this summer and the current deputy head at Greatcoats has just been appointed as her replacement.

The school's at the end of a building programme and the facilities are impressive. It has an active PTA if you want to get involved.

The atmosphere seems to be one of giving the girls freedom but at the same time teaching them they have a responsibility to their education. I really like the fact that the girls from different years seem to know each other quite well. I guess that's a benefit of a smaller school.

We've had girls from the school babysit over the years and I've always been impressed by their positive and open attitudes and the fact that they're healthily ambitious and generally go on to fulfil those ambitions.

I know someone who lives at least a mile away who has just got an open or non-church place. They were on the waiting list since last year and were just told that a place has become available.

In fact they are 3 miles away and got an open place in year so it cannot be that hard to get into, surely?

Distances offered from the waiting list aren't really related to the distances in the main admissions round.

Because by it's year 8 (if that's what you mean by waiting since last year) and your DC has started and settled in another school, you may well decide not to move them even if it was a school you'd have killed to get in to from the outset.

If you're dead set on the school, and think your DC would be OK with an odd-timed move, then (because there's always some movement in and out, especially in London) it's always worth sticking it out on the waiting list just in case. But it could be a lengthy wait and no guarantee of a place coming up at all.

I think their intake expanded this year as 3 girls from our primary in Putney went on non church places - they were offered in the summer term

Happily the new head has pushed up GCSE results by 10% after a five year decline. Hopefully governors will improve soon so that standards continue to improve. Likely to be a prime candidate for selective entry under Theresa May under the new management.

Sense again at last. We pulled our daughter out under the shambolic previous regime but glad to see a flavour of Joan Olivier and Paul Busby back again.
