Secondary PTA

My son has recently started in year seven in our local comprehensive. The PTA is very small and in an average year raises about £1000. Is this a normal amount for secondary schools PTAs? The school has about 1200 pupils and is not in a deprived area. One of the feeder primary's PTA raises in excess of £15k each year.

tbh I think you are lucky the school has a PTA at all.

Parents are much more removed at secondary, (and have used up all their energy on primary PTAs).

I am on our secondary PTA. It will close if it doesn't find a chair pdq. We act more as a way to organise parent-school discussions than fundraising.

I'm a Secondary PTA chair, we aim to raise about £2500 per year, not for anything specific but just ready for when the school needs it to get match funding.
In our school we only have 2 main events per year plus a 200 club. The main function seems to be providing refreshments at school events.
My DC2 has just started at a different secondary and they put on events every term, and they are well supported

DD's school doesn't have a PTA. The parents feel too disengaged with the school for one to work. I also think the teachers have enough on their plates with extra curricular stuff to find the time and energy required to help out.

Secondary PTAs tend to be very small, or non-existent. Parents have either been "PTA'd out" at Primary, or have gone back into careers and don't have the time / energy.

You need to focus on things such as a 50:50 club where you sign new, keen, soon to be Yr7 parents up for a standing order, and they never get round to cancelling it as it's only for £1 a month.

Also - 2nd hand uniform sales.
