i was thinking to register my 5 yo dd to a swimming class today, but now i look at the weather and think maybe i should do it in spring time. she will get cold in classes maybe and off from her school because of that.
do you think its better to start next term in spring?

I don't think it rally matters when you start, because you have to keep going all year.

mind you I hate going in the winter ( am currently putting ds2 through it )

iota · 03/12/2006 07:53

( I started ds2 in teh summer term this year BTW)

shebnem · 03/12/2006 07:53

i dont have a car.
and maybe she can catch cold viruses in the pool.
these are making me think about it...

and i think i wont be able to dry her enough after swimming and while waiting bus, walking she may catch cold.

catching a bus afterwards is definitely not fun - I can see your point. Maybe start in the summer, then

shebnem · 03/12/2006 08:01

thanks iota
today they are doing registry.
i prepared myself for today and now i have to decline it i guess.

Oh start NOW ! She will love it and she will probably be in stiflingly hot baby pool anyway wont she?

If you cant dry hair hair completely then by her a big woolly hat.

mrsnoah · 03/12/2006 08:25

Shebnem...Mine all started younger than this and we walk.
School makes them all walk 1 mile to and from when they are 7yrs and they dont have time to dry their hair.
Imo it does them good and toughens them up.

shebnem · 03/12/2006 08:33

ok mrsnoah i will do so

Good for you (Hope I didnt bully you into it)
You will love sitting on the side watching- you feel SO proud

Let us know how the first lesson goes

roisin · 03/12/2006 08:58

Yes, you can't protect kids from cold viruses - especially if they're at school. The sooner they get ill lots of times the quicker they'll build up their immunity.

My boys started younger than this, and we've always walked to the pool too - it's not far for us, but it means we're out in the cold/wet/wind, whatever.

They are now 7 and 9, and we're off to lessons in 15 minutes: I can't say I particularly enjoy it (especially after nearly 5 years of it!), but it's good exercise for them, and an important skill to master.

Tortington · 03/12/2006 09:02

oh how precious - she might get cold?! pmsl

mrsnoah · 03/12/2006 09:08

Now now Custardo!

Hideehi · 03/12/2006 10:27

Choose your pool carefully, mine don't go in a public swimming pool. Have you got a David Lloyd nearby.

AlienEarsUnderSantasHat · 03/12/2006 10:34

Do they have a better sort of germ in David Lloyd then?

Grin
NannyStarOfBethlehem · 03/12/2006 11:35

Don't be nasty Custardo, shebnem is just worried for her little girl.

aliceband · 03/12/2006 12:01

i would have thought january would be good, as the weather is often worse then, is something to do.

hatwoman · 03/12/2006 12:03

agree with aliceband - I see swimming as an indoor and therefore foul weather activity. and we walk to and from the pool

charliecat · 03/12/2006 12:05

Triple check your bag before you leave making sure youve got everything, and some nice warm clothes to put her in afterwards. Theres usually hairdryers, and if your in no hurry to get back and have time to dry her and her hair im sure it will be fine

shebnem · 03/12/2006 12:13

i just registered her and came back
thanks to everybody here
she will start: sat 13 jan
