Simple BOOKS my 4.75 yo to read herself...ideas please.

dd is just beginning to read a little. she can recognise a few words by sight, and is starting to word build cvc words.

any ideas for simple books- possibly a scheme, but not ORT- with lots of repition which will help her progress. she gets a real buzz when she can read by herself! although we share loads of 'real books' together, she loves it when she can read/ memorise a line of simple text by herself.

any ideas that are not too peter and jane-ish???

MArks and Spencer sell bright spark early readers. There are really good, On one page there are about ten sentences of text and on the other page there is just one sentence for when the child is just starting to read. My daughter is 5 1/2 and can read the whole books to herself though I iwsh I had discovered them earlier. They are 3 for 2 at the moment so you get 3 for £6.
rednosereaders are also really good and cheap from the book people. These books really gave DD alot of confidence and her reading improved greatly when I bought these for her.

what about Dr Seuss?

LOL - DD is learning to read with Peter and Jane She really likes them. At home we also have some other ladybird books, ORT and Jolly Phonics books. She made a really good go and Green Eggs and Ham the other day, so I will also look into further Dr Seuss books suggested.

would second Cat in the Hat ones (Dr Zeuss)and also Marks & Spencer early readers.

Also, the Book People are good at putting the age suitability of their books which are very helpful when you're just starting off.

dd2 also likes the Peter and Jane books or the other Ladybird early readers - tom and Kate ones. She has also got this set - it comes with 10 books, a parents guide and sticker chart to record your progress. Really good.

We have the Tom and Kate books too Seriously though - DD is really enjying them and it seems to be working as she is reading really nicely with them. I think she prefers them to the Floppy and Chip ones (ORT?) as they are bigger stories, rather than the same coup,ele of words or so repeated on every page.

Jelly and Bean books are really good.

The books are decodable so your daughter should be able decode any new words. They start off really simple and increase in difficulty. The vocabulary is controlled so there arent any words that she cant blend with a reception child's level of knowledge. You can either buy the books with nice pictures or plain text depending on what you want.

these are brilliant because they have a simple line at the top of the page for child to read then slightly more complicated at the bottom of the page for the parent to read. the stories make sense even if you only read the very simple line at the top

Second the Puddle Lane books as mentioned by snorkle - if you can find any.

Second those Katierocket, we've got a slightly different box version of 20 Apple tree farm stories, and we've gone from me reading all of it, to dd1 reading the top lines and me the bottom, to dd1 reading all of it.

My kids love the Jelly and Bean books - captivating pictures and simple words in the early books, with plenty of books so the whole progression is available.

I am curious, what do you find sinister?

dd loves the Green Banana books. You can get them in our local Waterstones. This link only shows four though, I'm sure you can get more than that

we always get the green banana series in the library as ds loves when he moves up to the next colour band!
