School admissions gurus... Help?

Apols if this has been done to death.

I live in an area where schools are oversubscribed.

School A is closest to us and we are in the "priority" area and pretty much guaranteed to get in on that basis, School B we are just outside the priority area for but well within the distance that places have been allocated the last few years.

DC hugely prefers school B. Do I blow my chances of getting school A if I put it second and B first. Both are popular and good schools and both oversubscribed.

My understanding is that the schools don't know the preferred order you state. Is this correct, I called School Admissions but still confused.

Any help appreciated. Thank you.

No. The schools do not see your preference. Only if both schools can take your child, does the preference come into play.

Agreed. Put the schools down in your order of preference.

always put down in order of YOUR preference.

if you aren't eligible for your first choice, you then go on your second choice school as if you were first choice.

As above. Your order of preference.

Schools can not discriminate against you if you don't put them first.
