Just a follow on from the what are the words thread. I've got them now, any ideas on how to use them without it feeling like work for dd. Games?

snap?

Cappuccino · 29/11/2006 18:45

my mother made a game of word bingo

hana · 29/11/2006 18:45

you could make flash cards up, 2 of each word and let dd write one of them - match up with them facing, find the pairs, look and say , say a word and she finds it
lots of variation
a white board is good too

Twiglett · 29/11/2006 18:45

silly sentences

HeavenisInherwinterunderwear · 29/11/2006 18:47

Try and make sentences with the words.
Put them on card and use them as flash cards.
How about a word search.
How old is she ?

Oooo, sounds like something that might be interesting for me and dd to look at... how do you know what the words are?

hana · 29/11/2006 18:49

reception children have 45 - they are classes as most commonly used words in print - so it's not words like hat sat mat ect
its more like
a am
my you up the when etc etc etc

Glassofwine · 29/11/2006 18:50

Wow - that was quick and by the way Twiglett - thanks for providing the words.

have typed them up and printed off a set so I can make them into cards. Looks like maybe I need two sets.

DD is 5 in Jan, have just had a parents eve with her teacher, who is happy with her no problems at all, but I haven't done much with her at home and remembered dd1 having these words when she was in reception, so I thought it would be something we could do together. Being the middle child she loves a bit of one to one and is enjoying trying to catch up with her older sister, so I want to encourage her as much as poss.

fridge dash
we have fridge magnets and i time how long he takes to find them

lucky dip
child picks a word amd reads it
i picj a wird and read it

silly mummy
as above but when it is my turn i get it deliberateky wrong and he corrects me

match it
reading reading book
get relevant key words ab=nd place them over words in the book

zap it
key words printed on own personal grid
throw a dice 0 if you get a bigger number than three, yo can pick a key word (either of your choice or at random) then place it on your own grid
when all wirds are used, the person with the most is the winner
