Using a pre school whilst waiting for primary place?

Is this possible?
We are waiting ( late admission due to house move ) for a school place for our son. Someone said he can use pre school funding until the term after he turns 5, so jan in his case.
Wondered if anyone had done it :)

Yes, if entitled to the free 15 hours, it can be used.

But have you got a nursery/pre-school place lined up?

Yes I have found one with spaces that initially I was just going to send my younger daughter to come September however didn't realise my son could use it until January, is that the deadline then, the term after they are 5? Thanks

Yes, that's the definition of compulsory school age. The start of compulsory school age is when the preschool funding ceases.

More precisely, a child whose fifth birthday falls between 1 Sept and 31 Dec inclusive reaches compulsory school age on 1 January.
