Where to buy school uniform?

Hi all- curious to know where people have bought the basics for school uniform (shirts, skirts, trousers) and found the best for cost/ quality- I always buy m&s but still works out expensive.

Asda online, decent quality & super cheap.

Tesco - double points offer ... bargain.

No question - M&S for us. Their trousers and wool jumpers are bullet-proof! Keep an eye out for 20% off over the holidays

Next. The only place I've found where the uniform fits properly. Local supplier for logo cardigans.

M&S for us. We tried the stuff from Asda and Tesco, but the quality wasn't the same. The M&S stuff usually lasts a full school year.

I find m&s absolute crap for the price tbh.

sainsbury is good for pinafores and their shirts with the embroidery at the bottom (two pack) are lovely. wash well I don't even iron most the time and they have lasted ages.

Second hand uniform sale.

Does anyone know where you can buy white polo shirts which when tumble dried don't need ironing? BHS used to be fantastic for this but must have changed their supplier as last year they needed it - sob.

I find Asda to be the best value. Our polo shirts need to be white and these are the only ones I have found that have stayed white and that I can pass onto DD2. The M & S ones were yellow by October half term. And they shrank!

Dd1 also likes their button up blouses which are very smart. I've just bought a load this morning, in fact.

Anyone recommend best place to get white school shirts for a 13 yr old and how on earth do you keep them white!

Skirts and pinafores from M&S, Tesco and Asda. (Previously also Sainsburys and Matalan). Quality wise they are similar, all stain resistant etc - maybe m&s slightly thicker material so hangs a little nicer. Jersey items all bobbled regardless of brand.

School trousers are from Aldi. Fit DD perfectly and waistband is nice and high so no builders bum. Also straight leg rather than boot cut or slim leg. DD has major issues with trousers and jeans in general (lives in leggings or tights) but she will wear these.

Blouse and cardigans and PE shorts from Next. Tried Tesco and Asda cardigans last year and they were perfectly fine but no pockets. Next had cardigans with pockets so bought them as it was specifically requested by DD to have pockets in her cardigans this year

We also have long sleeve shirts from M&S but bought last year in the sale for something stupid like £1.25 and put away.

Logo polos from school as I really like the fit and quality - pricey but worth it for me. Last years logo school cardigan still fits but DD dislikes it because it's sweatshirt fabric so don't expect it to be worn much, I think it's been worn 5 times since I bought it. I will not be buying more when it's outgrown.

This year trying out Tesco and Matalan tights and socks. Previously always bought M&S as the quality is excellent but the grey is very dark and opted for lighter shade this year.

School shoes this year are patent Lelli Kelly so I will see how they hold up in comparison to last years Ricosta shoes.

I know on here everyone raves about M&S having the best quality but it's a bit hit and miss to be honest. Somethings are really good but others I would say are on a par with supermarket stuff but just more expensive. I also find their fit quite wide and short for petite, skinny DD. (Last years age 3 PE shorts still massive on waist for her - I fear she will be ten before they go anywhere near her)

Next was great for my DS.
I bought a pair of trousers from my DS schools official suppliers, and found the cut and design of the styles not right. However the pair I have found in Next are cut very stylishly with the emphasis on the jean/boot cut

We tend to use M&S, if we are in the U.K. (We live abroad). Our son has to wear a blazer and the M&S wool one is 1/5 of the price of the school shop one. Then we just sew on the logo (many other parents do the same). The quality is excellent. The white polo shirts wash really well and the trousers have survived hundreds of games of playground football.

Unfortunately, my daughter has to wear a ludicrously expensive kilt that can only be purchased from the school shop. At the moment, she has two second hand ones (both of which were still quite expensive, for a 3 year old's skirt). One was just not enough with all of the paint and other stuff she tends to smear herself in during the course of the school day. I might send a swatch of the fabric to M&S and see whether they'll make a cheaper version!

I've bought the lot from Asda. Full uniform for less than £50, with a 100 day guarantee.

Given that trousers rarely last DS more than a couple of months no matter what the price, I'm hoping the guarantee won't run out before the trousers wear! If it does, at £3 a pair, I think they are more than replaceable!

m&s you pay a little bit more but at least it wears well and lasts

I buy some sports kit from Sports Direct and get the logo embroidered on at local dry cleaners who have the pattern. School shirts from John Lewis as have to have rever collar and few places seem to do them, rest I have to buy at enormous expense from the school shop, at least they have a tiny on site shop and the lady who works there is lovely! Cost means DD only has one of every item except for socks and shirts. I have a friend who has a younger daughter who I pass clothes down to who generously gives me gift vouchers as a thank you - so it all works out in the end!

But after the glut over the summer, stock can be a bit hit and miss, in-year top ups are from John Lewis who carry sensible levels of stock year-round.

a mix of tesco (shirts and skirts/trousers -clubcard boost made it super cheap) and bhs (more expensive).

keep shirts white by only washing with other whites, use bio powder and a scoop of oxi whitening stuff (I have tesco own make stuff at the moment)
