Four and a half day week?

A friend has just received a letter from her son's primary school advising parents that as of September the school will be run on a 4.5 day week. All children will go home at 1pm on Fridays. They are not making any bones about saying it is because of costs. I wondered how many schools are doing this now? She has been told that hers is not the only one in the LEA to have to take these drastic measures.

It's been happening here (Edinburgh) for ever- P1 and P2 come out at 12, others at 12.20. I love it, I have to say. I work part-time, so it's easy for me to say, but it makes such a nice long weekend, and it's always a relaxing time with the children. Completely different story if you work on Fridays though, I realise

Don't panic Batters - The schools are in Herts.

Bloody hell, what an awful idea!
I am from the school of thought that thinks they should be there 8 - 4 and Saturday mornings too, with no half terms!

Grrr Lisa

Not heard of this in South Yorkshire yet.

Sounds great idea to me. Actually I'd be delighted if they finished at 1pm every day, then I'd get to spend more time with them.

I'd love DS1 to finish at 1pm on a Friday. As much as he annoys me when he's here, I miss him!

our secondary school runs on this - although the staff have compulsory professional development on Firday afternoons - kids go home at lunch.
