Thanks to the inconsiderate person/people who on a daily basis allow their dogs to foul the footpaths on our route to school.Every morning is a nightmare trying to avoid the excrement with a 4 year old and a pushchair, sometimes we have to walk in the road as it is unpassable. This route is well known to the local council and several parents campain and religiously plague the council to come and clean it up,which they do but it is soon replaced with more excrement. We have a mile to walk to school and it is pretty much filthy all the way there, but there is a section of footpath before you get to the school gates that is always bad.DD1 has trodden it the excrement already this week and today she came out of school in her plimsolls as the class had been for an educational walk and she had trodden in dog excrement. Her shoes cost us £32 and now after a few weeks we have had to throw them away because the teachers didn't clean it off at the time it has dried on so much you just cant get it off and the shoes reek. Now im not meaning to get at the teachers here as no it is not in their job description to clean dog excrement off their pupils shoes but my dd was in their care when it happened. We cant really afford to buy anymore shoes at the moment and we only spent £30 on trainers for her on sunday and im not sending her in those.

Just to annoy you further but why should your dd's education suffer because of these ignorant dog owners. 1 day off school may not sound like alot but think of what she will miss and what message will it send to her about the importantance of school?

collision · 14/11/2006 22:12

Why dont you wear wellies to school and not be too bothered about the poo?

I would be very cross about this too but would not want her to miss school because of it.

Beauregard · 14/11/2006 22:12

Well i cant walk her there in bare feet can i ?

don't throw the shoes away. fish em out of the bin. brush them off with a stiff brush and then wash them with water and washing up liquid. it's a grotty job and will need rubber gloves but it does work we have done it with ds1's shoes.
that's a daft reason not to send her to school. it's her education! if you don't want to clean her shoes then send her in her trainers.
how about wearing wellies for the walk to and fro?

moondog · 14/11/2006 22:15

Oh come on
You can get dried shit off anything with a dry nailbrush.

Believe me!

hunkermunker · 14/11/2006 22:15

I'd be tempted to shoot the dog owners.

hunkermunker · 14/11/2006 22:16

Funnily enough, saying "owners" will probably provoke less of a response than had I said the dogs themselves. Funny old country, this.

Course, I'd shoot the dogs next.

pooka · 14/11/2006 22:16

Couldn't she go in her plimsolls? Agree that it's absolutely disgusting and no wonder you're angry with the ignorant selfish t*s who let their dogs do this (grrrr bring back licenses I say ). I just think that you can't keep her off school like this.

deegward · 14/11/2006 22:18

It makes me even more cross, as a parent helper (ds not even at that school anymore) I spent a morning cleaning poo off a child's shoes. Doubt if mum even knew about it, let just say I didn't eat much lunch that day!

shudda put shoes in washing machine. after vigorous hot water buckt and brillo pad jobbie.

if the shoes came out fucked - then nothing lost apart from elbow grease.

hindsight - its my third eye doncha know.

yes - buy a nice pair of shit shoes( wellies)

Beauregard · 14/11/2006 22:20

Dp tried cleaning the shoes for half an hour and they smell so much and he just cant get it all off.Yes dd has wellies and are a good idea but this wouldn't stop her tredding in anything during school hours.

Get together a parents campaign and catch the dog walkers with their crapping dogs too.

You could hand out bags to them for the steaming filth.

cazzybabs · 14/11/2006 22:22

Yes but she is not going for a walk evyerday is she and I am sure if you pointed out to the teacher your reasons she could wear her wellies. There can't be dog poo in the school ground surely - thats health and safety.

xena · 14/11/2006 22:22

Do you know what really bothers me about it is that they will walk it into school then when its walked all over the school hall they will all sit down for assembly where they will touch the floor with their hands and then they will eat lunch without washing said hands- and all because some lazy dog owner can't be arsed to clear the crap up.

Beauregard · 14/11/2006 22:23

Trouble is they cant be prosecuted without photographic evidence i believe, correct me if im wrong.why should i have to hide in a bush witha camera?

OP posts:
hunkermunker · 14/11/2006 22:24

Actually, the more I think about it, the more I don't think it's unreasonable to shoot them.

Beauregard · 14/11/2006 22:24

I will withdraw my consent for walks then i only have to worry about every morning.

OP posts:
hunkermunker · 14/11/2006 22:24

No need to prosecute them, PFNM.

You can run down the road after them, brandishing a machete (or a pooper-scooper) and screaming "you dirty fucker!"

Might be best if you don't have the children with you when you do that though.

Beauregard · 14/11/2006 22:26

Lockets -When you witness them letting their dog crap, save all the crap for a week in a bag then follow them home and post it through their bloody letterbox.
